Hi Tori and Amy-
I found your website and facebook page through talking with Clay and Marga Barrett. I couldn’t find contact information on your facebook page, so I tried to post a message there, but it seemed to be almost immediately removed- so now I’m trying this!
I teach Pilates here in Stillwater; at my downtown studio, Pilates on 7th, where I do private sessions, and at Total Health, where I teach Pilates mat classes. I am older (58), and have three kids myself, and came to Pilates about 10 years ago with a sense of desperation. I was slowly falling apart and gaining more and more weight, and every exercise program that I had previously tried had just ended up injuring me. With Pilates, I found that it changed my body, but it also changed my outlook, my moods, my stress level, my interest in healthy eating, and on and on. With all of those profound changes that I experienced, I wanted to share the Pilates method with others. And so I became a PhysicalMind certified Pilates mat instructor and then went on to do the extensive training required to use the Pilates equipment.
There are many misconceptions out there about Pilates- the first thing that you should know is that it is infinitely adaptable, and programs can be designed for almost every condition and situation. In the case of pregnancy (both during and after), the main focus would be the development of a strong pelvic floor, a strong Transverse Abdominus (the innermost abdominal muscle layer that acts as a natural corset), learning proper body alignment and breathing techniques, balance, and the appropriate stretching and/or strengthening of the different muscle groups as they are impacted by pregnancy.
I am planning on offering a prenatal Pilates class through the new Fit Body Studio that will soon be opening in Rosewood Hills. I would love to be able to connect with your facebook page followers, or maybe come to one of your meetings to talk about the benefits of Pilates, both during pregnancy and after.
I’d also be interested in hearing from you about any concerns that you may have, and I would love to hear any suggestions that you may have!
Thanks for your time- you can contact me by email or by phone- cheryl@pilateson7th.com
